Apple revealed its latest iMacs at an event at its California HQ - two 20-inch models retailing at £799 and £949, and two 24-inch models, which will sell at £1,149 and £1,459.
Apple also unveiled a new thin keyboard with audio and video controls. A wired version, which is priced at £29, is suitable for use with an older iMac or Mac Pro. There is also a wireless, Bluetooth version, priced at £49 including batteries.
Apple has revamped the look of the iMac - the new models are slimmer and the white plastic has been replaced with aluminium and glass - while internally there is up to 4GB of memory and up to a terabyte of hard disk space.
Apple also revealed on upgrade to iLife, its suite of home media software. iLife ‘08 costs £55 and includes new versions of iPhoto, iMovie, iWeb, iDVD and GarageBand.
iPhoto ‘08 has been enhanced to allow users to upload photos to a new set of .Mac services, allowing them to build Web pages with their photos. A new feature called ’skimming’ allows images to be previewed in an album without having to open the album itself.
iLife’s iMovie application has been completely rebuilt and given a new icon. Video clips can now be dragged and dropped into a movie template, where transitions and a soundtrack can be added.
iMovie users can now create iTunes versions of their videos and can upload their film straight to YouTube.
Apple has also entered the spreadsheet market, adding Numbers to iWork. Like the Pages word processor, Numbers focuses on visual impact and intuitive interfaces.
