Jupiter Research and iProspect analysed how people use search engines.

While the results are not entirely surprising, it underlines how important it is for companies to be well represented at the top of search engine results for their key commercial interests.

Key points of the study are:

  • People expect to find what they’re looking for on the first page of results
  • People may go through up to three pages of results, but little more
  • One third of users associated top listings with strong brands
  • Most users will add more keywords to their search if they can’t find what they want
