Be pushes on ADSL2+

Be, the internet service provider, which was acquired by O2 in June 2006, has expanded its super-fast broadband network.
The company has installed its equipment in 500 BT telephone exchanges, providing ADSL2+ broadband services to around 33% of the UK.
ADSL2+ is a broadband technology which can theoretically provide speeds of up to 24Mbps - three times faster than standard ADSL broadband, which is available almost universally across the UK through BT.
Be plans to install its equipment in a further 300 exchanges by the end of summer 2007, increasing its UK network coverage to 50% of the population.
O2 aquired Be as part of its development into a converged communications company rather than just focusing on mobile services.
Be was criticised by the Advertising Standards Agency in January for not making it clear that customers could only get 24Mbps speeds if they lived very close to their telephone exchange. The company has also had problems with network outages.
