Mobiles push DVB-H

A group of major mobile telecoms and technology companies have announced the formation of the Mobile DTV Alliance.
The group includes Nokia, Intel, Motorola, and Texas Instruments, and have the specific remit of promoting Digital Video Broadcasting-Handheld (DVB-H) as the standard for IPTV on mobile devices.
As mobile video entertainment gains increased awareness and achieves greater availability, the Alliance will focus on promoting the best practices and open standards that deliver premium-quality broadcast television to mobile devices for the North American market.
DVB-H is an open standard, and a rival to Media Flow, a proprietary standard owned by Qualcomm.
While trials of DVB-H are already established across the world, including the UK, it will serve as a further blow to marketing of propriety standards in mobile media and entertainment.
