Closely following the release of Photoshop Lightroom 1.1, the latest version of its digital photograph management software, Adobe has new announced that it now plans to let outside developers add their own plug-ins.
At the moment Lightroom 1.1 can only be modified by Adobe, but the company now plans to release a software developer kit to permit third-party programming.
It is not yet known when the kit will be released, but Adobe will work with developers to publish it as soon as possible.
Lightroom Version 1.1 has been updated to respond to user complaints and bugs have been fixed. Additional features have also been added such as support for Windows Vista and tools have been enhanced.
Lightroom now supports raw images from several new cameras, including the Canon 1D Mark III, Nikon D40x, Fujifilm FinePix S5 Pro, Olympus E-410 and SP-550 UZ, Sigma SD14 and several models from Phase One.
The software’s performance on Windows has been improved by fixing out-of-memory errors and memory-handling issues.
Groups of imported photos previously called libraries have been re-named catalogues and it is now easier to divide groups of images into separate catalogues. Different catalogues can also be merged.
