« MSN chooses Rosette Linguistics Platform | Main | Froogle News? » November 28, 2004Commercial blogging going live...In Blogs for sale or business I mentioned how corporations were looking at the possibility of using blogs to market their products and services. Now Marqui have started up their own their own blog commercialisation program, where they will select 15 blogs, and for the sum of $800 per month, request a banner, link, and weekly post on the service. Apparently, whether the serivce is posted as good or bad does not concern Marqui, who are looking specifically for "Product Awareness". However, I can't help but wonder at the experiment itself. Certainly, Marqui are paying a lot of money, so they should have a good choice of what blogs they can actually pick to begin the experiment. But while the blogs concerned may see this as nothing more than harmless advertising, other bloggers may see it as nothing more than "selling their souls". Whilst a number of successful blogs already offer advertising opportunities, it's hard not to see the payment for promotion of specific products/services as a real threat to the independence of blogs - which is precisely where their value is seen. One to watch. Posted by at November 28, 2004 10:28 AM > Discuss this in the Platinax Internet business forums |
