The European Commission has launched its own channel, EUTube, on the popular YouTube video-sharing website.

The EC hopes that the channel will make its audiovisual content more widely accessible to the general public and allow it to better explain its policies and actions to citizens.

EUTube’s video content includes documentaries covering the EU’s activities, historical events and interviews with European commissioners.

The EC will also use the channel to provide information on important issues such as climate change, energy and immigration.

Around 50 video clips are currently available on the channel and the majority of the content is in English. There is also some material in French and German, and content in other languages will be added at a later date.

The EUtube channel has the tagline ‘Sharing the sights and sounds of Europe’.

Users will be able to add their own comments on the video clips.
