According to the British Computer Society (BCS) the companies most likely to get ahead are those who place technology at the centre of their business strategy.
Speaking in support of its campaign to promote professionalism in the IT industry, the BSC claimed that companies are at risk of losing a competitive advantage if they don’t recognise the contribution of outstanding IT professionals.
The BSC believes that placing a CIO on the board will help UK companies become a major economic force in the world, as they will be better placed to use technology to gain an edge on their competitors.
The BCS professionalism programme has been running since 2005. The aim of the programme is to promote best practice in IT by establishing a common language for the IT industry and a competency framework for technology professionals.
The BSC is developing a series of reports into these areas, which should be published later this year.
