Eutelsat, the European satellite operator, is planning to launch a satellite-based broadband service in June.
The new service will provide broadband connectivity to European consumers currently unable to access fixed-line broadband in their locality.
The service will cost about the same as traditional broadband networks and will provide comprehensive coverage of Europe and the Mediterranean basin. Additional network capacity is available for future expansion.
Eutelsat developed the service in collaboration with Viasat which provides the satellite broadband technology and broadband operator Skylogic.
Eutelsat’s Hot Bird 6 satellite will transmit data and Skylogic will provide an access point to the satellite at a central hub in Turin.
