However, it has to be pointed out that the sales have really been turned on this year, so increased growth can hardly be held to have been a spontaneous development. The BBC in Christmas shoppers flock to tills also reports on merchants across the UK experiencing significant growth in sales. However, it has to be said, with interest rates likely to rise again in 2005, with the housing inflation possibly going into reverse, and massive consumer debt to contend with, is this the last of the fat cow years before the lean times hit?
